I painted this original seascape watercolour after a date with my wife at Pin Mill in Suffolk. The water at Pin Mill was mirror-like and still and reflected this old boat beautifully in the shallows.

The little gull sat on the buoy amused me and thought it made a nice sub-subject for a painting. The painting is made up of many layers of watercolour pigment. This allowed me to build depth into the water revealing the life beneath. This layering also helped with the weathering of the old rowing boat which shows the blistering paint texture.
