Original Linocut Print of St Mary's Church located in Glemsford, Suffolk.
This is a 4 tone "Reduction Cut" Lino Print from a limited edition of just 20 prints. Each layer is hand-carved from one block of artist grade lino which reveals each layer of the images tone as I print. It's all hand carved, inked and pulled from my antique printing press located in my studio.
"A local follower contacted me commissioning me for the original print. Her mother finds comfort in visiting her late husbands grave in the churchyard almost every day but has struggled to visit as much as she would like so I was commissioned to do this print so the lady's mother could have something to help comfort her on days she can't visit.
This story stayed with me through the many hours of work it took to draw, paint, carve and print the multiple layers of this print. I wanted to do the lady's memory of her husband justice and give her something she'd treasure and look at everyday. The church is located on a hill in Glemsford, overlooking the village and Suffolk farmland. I wanted the image to portray the often windswept location so i used quite choppy carving style to encourage 'chatter' for texture and grass. It looks windy and adds to the atmosphere of the print. I am really proud of the final piece."
