Inspiration
I've always loved being by the sea, come rain or shine there's something calming in the sometimes chaotic beachscape. I took this picture on a recent family visit to Well-Next-The-Sea in Norfolk as the huge cloud building stretched above the somewhat vastness of the beach. There was something about the balance of the two that I was really drawn too and I can't resist a moody sky.
Painting Technique
I painted this on Cold Pressed, Fine Grained Bockingford paper block by St Cuthberts Mill. It has a lovely texture that allowed the watercolour pigment to granulate well in the stormy sky. I used a mixture of wet-on-dry and wet-and-wet techniques which provided the reflected water on the beach.
